On The Wireless

Looking forward to Friday, BBC Radio Lancashire are going to broadcast live from my home in Catterall nr. Preston. WHY. well some time ago I built a pub (as you do) in an outbuilding, christened it the Ship & Murphy, private use only. The radio station got to hear about it and suggested Sally Naden and Brett Davidson do their morning show here 0900 to 1200 on 23.10. The scary bit is that my band BlokesandaBird will be knocking out a few tunes between 1100 and 1200. No pressure, only 100,000 listeners. Have any bands on here 'gigged' on the Radio? Any tips appreciated

Be chatty, be yourself ! Your talking only to the presenters and crew. Your playing a live gig to them..... You will soon be at ease, think of it as a sound check with a chatty crew you haven't worked with before and your just having some banter :-) I've done mainly interviews but once did a BBC Radio Newcastle acoustic spot once. It was great fun. Enjoy !

I once presented BBC Lancashire's Folk programme...backed by half a dozen people from the Buskers Ball...didn't half get some complaints rung in as the night wore on...hahaha...from the trad finger in ear brigade...we put on a couple of people 'live'

BIG TIP....Don't make your songs too long...2 minutes is a long time on radio..one of our singers did a 7 minute song, which when we listened the recording after was...erm painful...hahaha
Just keep em short and snazzy even if you have to cut em down...

And just keep talking...sure you'll have a blast...time will go dead quick, so enjoy it!
