Gig Guide Fail

Went to support Now and Then tonight......

So my fellow drummer Big Mart and I decided to go out and support a nwb band. On checking the gig guide we decided on Now and Then who were listed as playing at the Millstone in Darwen as Mart knows Ben. Off traipses we to the Millstone in Darwen only to find no band and no publicity. Thinking we'd got the wrong start time we headed up to The Crown and took in one set of the band there and had a chat with Pete from Crush who we bumped into in there who told us that the Millstone didn't usually put bands on on a Sunday night. We had another look in the Millstone later on at about 9 only to find the main doors shut and headed home.

All in all a disappointing evening.

Hey hey hey - welcome back TT - where you been?

The Millstone haven't had bands on a Sunday for ages.

I'd guess the Millstone is still closed for refurbishment. It canceled James bands gig 28th Oct on brewery instruction, with the landlady ringing us to let us know,l assume she rang other bands to tell them.

Peeped through the Millstone's window this friday......Disco! I was told Disco and Karaoke was on last night(Sat) and you see tonight's effort above! Nice to see TT and Martin out-n-about on a Sunday! Allegedly, according to a local ardent music-fan, there is no money from the management company till next year for live music at the Millstone, allegedly (stressed!).
Anyroads......200 yards from the Millstone is The Crown who DO put live music on, on a Sunday! Tonight's band was Peleliu Sunrise. A very tight, musically together, band from Chorley! They did a couple of there own (very catchy) songs in between some very regularly played covers, and some not-so-often-heard covers. A very good mix o' tunes. Thanks, Guys!
My point is.....if very few bands are playing on a Sunday neet... We should get out and support the venues that put live music on! OTHERWISE we will ALL lose out, like the people going to the Millstone did, tonight!
At the start of P.S's gig, TT, Martin, Gary (CHS), myself and half a dozen others were there! A few more came in for the second set. It was a nice intimate gig for us but financial suicide if it carries on like this, for the music-loving hosts!
Support these venues or, next year, I think we may lose a few more!

Yeh, ...like the Buskers Ball...keeping music 'live' on a Sunday in Hindley!

Anyway, surely the first rule of gig guide is just that...its a guide! Always better to ring first :)

hmmmm very interesting. we were initially booked to play at the millstone on SATURDAY 10TH NOVEMBER. a few weeks ago we got a text saying it was cancelled as the venue was shut due to refurb. i recalled this excuse being used a while back to cancel a band so kinda knew it was bollocks proven by the fact they had a disco on.

a little annoying for us but hey ho we got another gig in place of it so no real skin off our nose. just wish they would be honest about their reasons for cancelling.

the gig was cancelled off our listing so it mustve been the millstones gig calender that wasnt updated properly so sorry for your wasted journey on behalf of them and cheers for coming down to (not) catch us.

As I am really , really old I remember The Crown putting music on in the afternoon. About 4 to 5pm I think. This has slowly slipped back to an early evening gig. Now, as a punter who used to work, it was great being able to have a few daytime beers, then go home and get prepared for the working week. Now, I think people might find the timings a bit late for us workers.

Maybe bring it back to 5pm? I'll mention it to Steve or Dot!

I went to a well known NWB venue to see a band 'as advertised' on NWB...drove there to find no band...nothing...nobody...
So I later PM'd the venue promoter to vent my frustration but was ignored...
Then, some time later, said venue promoter refused to give my band any more future gigs at the venue citing 'my' attitude as the main reason...how dare I complain when 'my' time/expense was wasted...some people...
So we had to find a new venue to replace that one...no biggie...at least the replacement venue is actually 'on' a map !!!
