shite few weeks

Well whats going on???? I know its suppost to be summer and people are saving to go away but our numbers have fallen dramatically!!! We had "Mothership" on last night who played to a great set of customers but we were only half full. This has been happening for about 6 weeks. A very low turn out all round. Its certainly not our fault as we have had some cracking bands on with a mixture of musical tastes. Any other venues noticed a dip??

May have to lower all your fees to 120 now!! And thats not each!! lol

Yes exactly the same. It's been shite since the start of June. Weird because May was really good.

@ Daz , it was the Leyland Lion. Its worth going in Wetherspoons just to watch the staff squashing the chips on the floor whilst cleaning the tables, just one circular wipe on a square table then they're off spreading the grease and shite on to the next one, a joy to behold......Tel

Same here i'm afraid, could speculate reasons for this but it not going to make any differance on paper. Just gonna have to stick it out!

Barboogie was rammed in burnley - More of a youngster/clubster crowd though.

How about putting your venues forward for an nwb showcase? - happy for any venue to use the 'nwb' brand to pump up gig interest.

Maybe get a couple of acoustic acts on before the main band - 'open mic stylee'

Barboogie? Sorry but I don't like to go to places where the locals still point at aeroplanes...

It has been a bit quieter at Number 39 but the venue is very small anyway and we don't page a musicians wage. This weekend The Sun Inn in Llangollen was heaving both Friday and Saturday evenings.

@ Mr NWB. Do you mean the main band would'nt be an acoustic act.?.....Tel

It's a marathon not a sprint. Doing something that makes it busy on one particular night with people who will never come regularly won't really help, in fact is best avoided.

as an engineer working with bands i don't recognise this picture at all. can't remember the last time i worked or attended a local tumble weed gig.
here's a thought - maybe paying washers for bands isn't building an audience. all the gigs i work have a decent payday (250/300 and upwards) and all have a healthy audience - but the healthy payday is in return for good all rounder bands.
BUT that said, our diary and the diaries of bands i work with go quieter over the next 6 weeks until they pick up again at the end of september - various band and crew are on holiday and there are few windows in the diary until September.
ALSO the function and festival season is in full swing. so the sort of gigs we work have been changing over the last month or so. festivals, black tie gigs and weddings all feature heavily in the diary until the end of September when they are replaced again by more bar and pub gigs.
